About Us

About "Us" is really about me, Emily Sterrett. Other than occasional assistance from people I know (like my husband's great proofreading), I'm IT. So who am I and why did I create this website?

I am a consultant, trainer, coach, and career counselor with management experience. Curious about why some bosses are so good and others wash out, I've been a serious student of leadership for many years. I've had some bosses who were doozies, and I bet you have too!

I've always been a keen observer of human behavior. In fact, I've been working for years with people who are having various difficulties at work: they don't have the skills they need, they are not a good match for the work, or they are struggling with thorny people-issues.

I have learned that I can often help them.

I've also done lots of writing on leadership and related areas. I have one title published by HRD Press (A Manager's Pocket Guide to Emotional Intelligence) and another (Teamship) in press with them.

In addition, I've written dozens of articles and courses.

I have a Ph.D. in Social/Organizational Psychology. You don't have to be overly impressed by that--it just means I'm a good student. I'm just a regular person, always just "Emily."

I'd Like to Help

Since I am a "good student," I have some insight on how to help people learn. In the area of supervisory leadership, I focus on practical skills and behavior (not theory and research) because that's what produces results, and that's what my site is about.

I believe that simple things, done repeatedly, really work. Everything on this site is common sense--simple, but not easy. That's why it takes practice.
